Human Remains Discovered
October 17, 1981
On October 17, 1981, The Lavaca County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the Rest Area on Highway 77N, of Hallettsville, Lavaca County, Texas, for some human remains that were discovered. The skeletal remains of a woman were found and despite the efforts of our previous law enforcement officials, the remains have never been identified. The skeletal remains were sent to the Forensic Anthropology Center at Texas State for identification assistance; however, the women's identity remains unknown. The Anthropologist Department was able to do a facial reconstruction of the victim. A genetic genealogy report was also completed and showed possible relatives from East Texas or the Louisiana area. The unidentified remains have been entered in the NAMUS Database. The NamUS link is: https://www.namus.gov/UnidentifiedPersons/Search. The NamUS case number is UP6116. The remains are believed to be that of a Caucasian Female approximately 55 years of age and between 5'03" and 5'05". It appears the woman had dentures and had fractures to her legs. It is unknown how old the fractures are. Any information that may lead to the identification of this woman is appreciated.
